Prototype 2

Standard

Has anyone else played Prototype 2?  Because I’m playing it now and I feel as if I am at a disadvantage, because I didn’t play the first one. That said, I’m still enjoying this game. It has an Infamous feel to it and I love that game. I’m enjoying the story – sort of.

I’m having a problem because this has a definite anti-science feel to it. Maybe, because of the anti-vaccine movement that is growing, I am more aware of the anti-vaccine, anti-science storyline than I would be without my awareness of this movement.

You play Sgt. James Heller, who lost his wife and daughter to the infected people. Now, he has a death wish, but first he wants to take revenge on those who caused the virus that ultimately led to his family’s death. Right at the beginning, Alex Mercer infects Heller and this turns him into an evolved.

If you like Infamous, you’ll love Prototype 2. Now, I just have to buy the first one and play it.

Chimpact

Standard

imageThis is an addicting little game made by Yippee! Entertainment. The goal is to get your Monkey from tree limb to tree limb by throwing him via a sling.

This is not as easy as it sounds. Sometimes, you have to get him real high. Sometimes, you have to fit him through a narrow opening. After you rise in levels, you get to play the little girl monkey (I mention this because that’s who is in my screenshots.)

Not only do you have to make it home, but you have to find gems. This is not always an easy task. The gems can be hidden in branches, behind leaves or right out in the open.

UPDATE: First, one complaint:  The game will flip your chimp if you take too long.  Perhaps, this is something to do with my phone (Samsung Galaxy IIIS) or it is a part of the game.  I’m not sure, but it’s annoying.  Second, I’ve played some of the Totem Trail and the Quick Play, which I didn’t mention above.  These are fun little ditties as well.

Assassin’s Creed IV – Black Flag

Standard

The trailer for this game looks amazing. Even though I have yet to finish Assassin’s Creed 3, I’m already looking ahead to being able to play this one.

This storyline takes us from Colonial America (playing as Connor) to 1715 and the Caribbean – playing as Connor’s grandfather, Captain Edward Kenway.

There just isn’t enough time in the day to play them all.

On a humorous side note, I watched one of the Assassin’s Creed IV trailers on YouTube and saw the videos recommended to watch next. Among the game videos was Don Rickles at Ronald Reagan’s Second Inugural. Seems like a crazy combination to me.

Shine Runner

Standard

I downloaded Shine Runner from Amazon on Friday night.  I ended up playing it for the next hour or so.  I’m not very good at racing games – I’ll admit that right up front – but this game is so much more than just a racing game.

Yes, you do get to race a flat-bottomed fanboat through a backwoods bayou. However; the whole point is to collect money and purchase items that you can sell (hopefully for a profit) at the next location.ShineRunner

So, there’s a little strategy involved that usually isn’t in a pure racing game.  That’s the part I liked best – trying to guess how the money is going to pay out.  What should you purchase to make the most amount of money, because at the end of the game, the amount of money is what counts.  For the racing part of the game, well, you can’t go wrong.  You get to smash into everything.  Pretty much if you enjoy destroying docks, shacks and outhouses this is the game for you. If you enjoy outrunning the police (and, who wouldn’t?), this is the game for you.  At only $.99 on Amazon, you really can’t go wrong.  But, don’t just trust my opinion, view their trailer and make up your own mind.

Homefront

Standard

As I sit here watching the credits roll at the end of Homefront, I am more than a little disappointed. The single player campaign was just too short. I wanted to keep going.

That said, the rest of the game is amazing. With stunning graphics and an intense storyline, Homefront was definitely worth the money. I found myself swearing at the screen – and not because I was frustrated, but because I was seriously angry at the atrophies I “witnessed”. The game lets you feel as if America has truly been ripped apart by the KPA. You see all of the horrors of war – made worst than most FPS war games because this is our country.

The ending looks like there could be a possible sequel. If that is the case, I hope they make the single player campaign longer than this one.

Moving on to the multiplayer. I’m sure if you’re a long time reader of this blog that you know that I really suck at multiplayer games. I’m the noob standing up at the wrong moment that you get to wipe out time and time again. I love to play sniper and I’m not good when it comes to running around randomly shooting people. I, also, have a tendency to keep my mouth shut even if I have my headset on.

I like Homefront’s multiplayer mode. It has the quality (when it works, they’ve been plagued with problems from the start) of Black Ops, but it doesn’t seem as difficult to me. I can hold my own. Yes, I’m still cannon fodder (and don’t we all feel a little bit safer knowing that I’m not in the military?), but I’m able to level up at a faster rate thanks in part to two items: 1) the infantry abilitiy of Grizzled, which allows faster XP and 2) the purchase slot item RQ-10 Parrot. This is a drone whereby you fly around and mark the enemies for your teammates. This is an amazing invention. I have all ready reached the Expert level for it and, mainly due to my drone XP, I have been able to level up enough to have access to better weapons.

Despite the long waits for active games – the wait was longer at the beginning of Black Ops, I think – and some server issues, once the Homefront team get their act together, I believe that the multiplayer environment will be popular for a long time to come.

If you play Homefront on the PS3, look for me – BentleyGadget.  I usually play Saturday and Sunday mornings and some evenings.

Battlefield Bad Company 2

Standard

The horror of it all!  I went to play Bad Company 2 over the weekend and the game wouldn’t work.  I don’t know what went wrong, but somehow the disk was cracked.  I take very good care of my disks, so this had to be sabotage!  No, I’m kidding.  I’m sure it was an accident.  It might’ve happened when I tried to take it out of the case.

Anyway, I went to Best Buy on Saturday, used what was left on my gift card and purchased Battlefield Bad Company 2 Ultimate Edition.  I am really glad that I did.  The Ultimate Edition comes with a code for Battlefield 1943, which is a game I’ve never played.  I can tell you this – I suck at it.  I’m not scoring very high and I haven’t managed to earn one trophy.  However; my lack of skill does not diminish my enjoyment.  I am finding that the scope in 1943 is not as efficent and good as the scope in Bad Company 2.  I’m having a very difficult time shooting people at any distance.  I’ve, also, noticed that it will take three or more shots to take out an opponent while using a rifle, but it only takes an opponent one or two shots to take out me.  But, it might be me.

Also, the Ultimate Edition includes the Onslaught Mode for Bad Company 2.  If you have not all ready downloaded this version of multi-player, I highly recommend it.  This is more challenging and you have to work as a team in your squad in order to win.  You play against the computer AI, but still, it is challenging.  I’ve been playing on Normal and I’m about ready to try my hand at Hard.

I play online using the PS3 – my screen name is BentleyGadget – if you would ever want to join me online.

Bad Company 2 – Quick Review

Standard

I purchased my copy of Battlefield Bad Company 2 today.

Wow! Bad Company 2 starts off in 1944 and the first mission is a little strange.  Flash forward to whatever year this is supposed to be and you’re Preston Marlowe again.  Didn’t we get the gold at the end of Battlefield: Bad Company?  Shouldn’t we be on a beach somewhere drinking a fruity drink? Not freezing our butts off in God knows where? And, where’s Mike 1 Juliet?

This time it is way harder.  Controls are a lot different.  I like these controls better.  And, I’ve all ready died more times than I care to admit.  But, I’ve earned two trophies.  I can see why game informer mag gave it 9.5 out of 10.  I am confused why they went up to a mature rating – I understand the reason it received a mature rating, I was just wondering why EA and Dice went from teen to mature on this series.

Quick Notes (since I haven’t finished the game):

I like the new way to move through your weapons.  The old way of L2 and R2 just didn’t cut it for me.  I like that you can have two different rifles.

I don’t like the fact that the heal yourself is gone – I don’t seem to get out of the way fast enough to survive a head on attack.

Once I’ve either finished the game, I’ll post a better written review.

Best Buy – Moving into GameStop’s Game

Standard

According to this week’s Bloomberg Businessweek, Best Buy will soon be moving to selling used video games.  Yes, readers, Best Buy is going to sell and purchase used video games.

Somehow, I just don’t see myself going to Best Buy to purchase my used video games.  I have a relationship with the young people at my local GameStop.  We talk, we discuss games and they make recommendations.  This wonderful rapport is not going to happen at Best Buy.

I’m curious how many people are really going to go to Best Buy to trade in and purchase used video games.  That’s why I’ve put up a poll.
